Aung San and Bobby Kennedy
As I was writing my last article, I recalled something that General Aung San said, “Every thought, every word, and every action that adds to the positive and the wholesome is a contribution to peace. Each and every one of us is capable of making such a contribution. Let us join hands to try to create a peaceful world where we can sleep in security and wake in happiness.”
Bobby Kennedy said a similar thing. “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
Both Aung San and Bobby Kennedy were from the same generation. They were both born in the early quarter of the 20th and on the other side of the world from each other. And yet, both were very similar. They worked to improve their countries. Tragically, both were assassinated by people who didn’t like their determination to improve their countries. Aung San was killed in 1947, and Bobby Kennedy died in 1968.
However, it has been over a half-century since their deaths. It is unbelievable where both Myanmar and America are today. Myanmar is in the throes of a civil war. In Myanmar, some generals launched a coup on February 1, 2021. The military is waging war against the people, ethnic groups, and burning towns and villages. They arrested the daughter of General Aung San, Aung San Suu Kyi, again. She is now in prison. The military intends to keep her behind bars until she dies. That wasn’t the kind of government General Aung San wanted for his country or his mother.
Look at where America wound up. Donald the Dumb attempted a coup also, which was less than a month before the generals in Myanmar. The insurrection occurred on January 5, 2021. Donald the Dumb, fortunately, blundered and failed. However, Trump is a loser who won’t go quietly into the night. Even though Trump failed, his minions of wannabees are still trying. We still are on the verge of another civil war in America.
White supremacists are replicating the Civil War in 1861-65. It is about racism. White supremacists fear that minorities can do better than they. Therefore, their only option is to begin a civil war. In that way, the South shall rise again.
