What Goes Around
Comes Around…Again and Again

Over the past two decades, I have taught about Hinduism. It is interesting how they view people and the world in which we live. The issue is that we create within our lives situations that will return later in life for good or ill. The Bhagavad Gita, which means Song of God, is essentially a poetic dialogue between Arjuna, who was a great warrior and Krishna, a Hindu supreme deity.

Krishna and Arjuna working together to understand reality

Essentially, Krishna is teaching Arjuna the meaning of karma. If you are good, you will create good karma for yourself. The opposite is equally true. Sooner or later, your bad activity or bad karma will come around and get you. And what is true at the personal level is true also at a societal level.

The ancient Hindu truism about karma is applicable in the West. Returning to the Western world, we see karma working out over time both at the individual level and that of the societal level. For example, America faced the Civil War, which was fought over the central issue of slavery. There were a handful of secondary issues like states’ rights, but slavery was one of the issues that the states wanted to control. The South thought that whites had the right to own slaves, which created bad karma for them personally and within the Southern society in general. After four extremely bloody years, the inhumane treatment of the Confederacy came back to haunt them.

However, some Southerners with money and power were able to flee the South. Approximately, 10,000 were able to escape to places outside the US. Brazil was the major destination for the Confederates. Emperor Dom Pedro II wanted to help the Confederates who were known as Confederados. He wanted to help the defeated Southerners come to Brazil and even become Brazilian citizens. To make this point, he took out ads in US papers.

Dom Pedro II

While on the one hand, Dom Pedro II seemed to want to help the Southerners. However, history professor Luciana da Cruz Brito said that the real reason for his offer was because “…it was public policy in Brazil to whiten society by bringing in Europeans and European-descended Americans.” The reason for the whitening of Brazilians was that during the time of slavery in Brazil, they acquired more than ten times the number of slaves than the US during the same time-period. Adding non-whites to the population raised problems for the whites.

The Slave Trade

Despite the Confederados welcome to whiten the people of Brazil, the Southerners faced several issues in their new home. They had to adjust to a new and different society. Farming was different, and the climate was not good for growing cotton. Also, most of the Confederados were Protestants, and most all Brazilians were Catholic. Even though slavery was accepted by the Brazilians, the Confederados viewed the Brazilians as mulatto and not white. Finally, all but one of the communities of Confederados lasted very long within Brazil. Either they moved to other countries or were absorbed into the Brazilian society.

What happened to immigrant slaveowners is a good example of karma. What goes around comes around. However, what goes around comes around again and again. Our fake president still has issues about blacks. Trump thought that there were some good neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville who were upset about the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. Perhaps, Donald forget that Lee lead the Southern army in revolt against the United States.

Donald the Dumb has a long list of blacks that aren’t very smart. He claims Rep. Maxine Waters possessed a “very low IQ.” A couple of week ago, Trump said, “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon.” Trump went further stating that Don Lemon “…made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”

However, Trump is rattled by Barack Obama, claiming for a decade that he wasn’t an American citizen.

Donald the Dumb needs to read this article in the Chicago Tribune. Is Trump smarter than those whose brainpower he criticizes? Let’s find out!

Finally, to be absolutely honest with you, Donald the Dumb might revoke my national-security clearance as he did with John Brennan. Our fake president has an enemies list of people that criticize his shenanigans as our president. He might also revoke my clearance along with James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Andrew McCabe, Bruce Ohr, Lisa Page, Susan Rice, Sally Yates, and the list goes on.
