This essay is a follow-up to The Virgin King. My adult children in Myanmar are Moh Moh and Ko Ko, and they live in another world than many Americans. They live in Southeast Asia, on the other side of the world.

I love them and their children. I would like to revisit them again in Myanmar. Discovering them changed my life. I have many reasons for being, but they are at the top of the list. However, their living in a different world also means they keep abreast of what is happening in the States. I was sitting in front of my computer late in the evening of November 8, 2016. I was watching the results of the presidential election on the news. Trump got more electors than Clinton in the Electoral College even though she had 3 million more votes than he received. The prospect of Trump as our next president rattled me.

I couldn’t believe that Trump lost the popular vote but won due to the Electoral College. Amid the confession and concern swirling around in my hand, I got an email from Moh Moh. She wanted to know what was happening in America. I replied that I couldn’t grasp the situation.

Last week, Ko Ko sent me this video.

Many Americans live in their own worlds, isolated from the rest of our planet. Our insular existence as a nation between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans parallels many of the mindsets of others. I bet many Americans either don’t know where Myanmar is located or if they did, they wouldn’t know the capital or names of other cities.

Trump is the epitome of an egotistical former president; when forced to accept others being around, he bullies them. Trump pushed the Prime Minister of Montenegro out of the way at the NATO summit in Brussels.

Trump’s MAGA ditto heads adore their Virgin King. Well, name a world leader that has spoken favorably about Trump. Let’s make a list. Putin likes Trump. Kim Jong Un of N. Korea sent a love letter to Trump. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary said that Trump was a “man of peace.”

I came up with three. Can you name any world leader other than those three autocrats who admire Donald the Dumb? Name a world leader who has visited Trump after losing to Biden? And yet, many Americans live in another reality as they follow their Virgin King. There is a fool on the hill who has many devotees. The question is, what would you call the fool’s devotees?
