Trump as Savior
Let Me Hear a Halleluiah

On July 13, a 20-year-old guy attempted to assassinate Trump and failed. Rather than merely stating that he was “the sacrificial lamb of God,” Trump and his bleeding ear finally was an actual visual example of him as the lamb.

The Republican National Committee added to the party’s platform a document that created a new federal agency to protect Christian nationalism. It reads, “To protect Religious Liberty, Republicans support a new Federal Task Force on Fighting Anti-Christian Bias that will investigate all forms of illegal discrimination, harassment, and persecution against Christians in America.”

In the wake of the assassination attempt, that statement was deleted. Trump now is the crucified and resurrected son of the God of the Christian nationalists. We live in the time of the second coming. Trump declares that his resurrection was a divine miracle. “The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle. I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead. By luck or by God, many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here.”

Trump’s disciples also affirmed that miracle. Billy Graham’s son, Franklin, declared, “The devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle.” Rep. Mike Johnson announced, “GOD protected President Trump yesterday.” Sen. Tim Scott uttered, “Listen, if you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, you better be believing right now.”

If you think any of those comments by Trump, Graham, Johnson, or Scott were weird, to coin a phrase, JD Vance said, “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”

Some religious scholars who follow Trump, which seems counterintuitive, believe that Trump isn’t necessarily a faithful Christian. Nonetheless, he is more like Cyrus the Great of Persia, mentioned in Isaiah 45 of the OT. Isaiah saw Cyrus as the anointed one, and God chose Cyrus to free the Jews from the Babylonian captivity. Trump is merely a 21st-century version of Cyrus.

The Jews rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem and the Temple. To make sure all that lived within the walls were Jews, they excluded non-Jews, who were called Gentiles. Trump is doing precisely the same thing. He wants to get rid of those who are “poisoning the blood” of the whites. Trump is now selling Bibles, which includes the Constitution and the Pledge of Allegiance.
