Single-Payer
There are a few things in life that I can’t tolerate. Do you have any idea what they might be? Not becoming the best that you can be, not caring for others, and being arrogant, self-righteous BSers. All these people have healthcare and plenty of money. Healthcare isn’t an issue for them, but it is for 10s of millions of Americans. What are these fat cats delighted about? America will remember your lack of care for those without healthcare insurance. My suggestion is that these fat cats should watch the Jimmy Kimmel video about his newborn son. I watched this 13-minute video several times. While I watched the video, I thought about all those who will be without insurance or suffer from limited funds to cover expenses of preexistent conditions. I was mad at those self-righteous fat cats. In Kimmel’s video, this picture is shown of his newborn. Then it happened while looking at this picture and Kimmel’s face as he faced something beyond his control. I felt precisely like that 45-years ago. When Kristin, my adult daughter, was a month old, we lived in Kingston, PA. In June 1972, Hurricane Agnes stalled over Eastern Pennsylvania for a week. It caused massive flooding throughout the Wyoming Valley. We evacuated our home and stayed with friends for a couple of days who lived in a small town, Mountain Top, PA, which was obviously out the flood zone. However, Kristin got sick with a high fever. All of the hospitals were flooded in the area. So, I backed up the family and drove to Pittsburgh, PA where my parents lived and went to a hospital with Kristin worried about what was wrong with our month-old newborn baby. The doctors took her and ran tests to determine the cause of the fever. A couple hours later, a doctor returned with Kristin in his arm but with an IV in her head. Here we were looking at our infant child with an IV taped to her head near her temple. I was scared and asked what they found. The doctor said not to worry. She had a urinary tract infection, and they stretched her urethra. Essentially, it wasn’t something about which to be concerned; they fixed it in a few minutes. A day or two later, Kristin was well and released from the hospital. Nonetheless, seeing your newborn with an IV in her head made me aware of Kimmel’s pain. My pain was resolved in less time than it took me to write this essay, but the pain still haunts me. My insurance covered the procedure. However, what if Kimmel and I didn’t have insurance? What if we were a part of the 20-million plus that won’t have insurance. Neither of our newborns could have recovered from their medical issues without going to a hospital and treated. However, Donald the Dumb and his fat cat followers are arrogant BSers. They don’t care for the millions less affluent than they are. James Baldwin wrote a book about that type of person, No More Water, The Fire Next Time. Healthcare needs to be addressed. It can be accomplished if they deal with Obamacare by tweaking some areas. Then they need to go to a single payer system where the government runs it to help all Americans, regardless of income. If we stay with private insurance companies, who are interested in making money, we will have problems again in the future. I wrote an essay prior to the passing of Obamacare, which was posted on August 23, 2009. That was precisely seven months to the day when the Affordable Care Act was signed by President Obama. In my essay, The Luddites are Back, I quoted the annual incomes of the three top executives of healthcare insurance companies. These income levels are eight years old! This is America; let’s treat all people as equals. Visit the Darkest Before Dawn page to read more about this topic. Visit the My Hauntings page to read more about this topic.
