If you have been following my social media, you might have noticed that I joined a couple of volunteering clubs. In those clubs, I share my knowledge on the English language and speaking. The only thing that is different from teaching children is they are adults (most of them are older than me), and I work free of charge.
The activities contain team-building games, discussion, sharing ideas from the teams, and finally, a presentation from the lead facilitator. And here's how I managed the discussion class yesterday
First, I started with a little fun game which I named "Predator vs. Prey." I inspired it from a Korean variety show called "Running Man." The predators have to hide their name cards in the room. The preys have 3 minutes to find those name cards, and if they can't find them, they will be hunted down by the predators after 3 minutes passes. If the prey finds the name card in 3 minutes, the owner of the following name card will lose.
After a warm-up, I made them introduced to each other to break the ice and get to know each other more. I talked about myself afterward. When the introduction part was done, I divided them into two groups and gave three questions each to discuss.
Twenty minutes later, I asked each team to choose a person to represent their team. And he/she was to give a summary of their discussion. A questions and answers section followed afterward, where they could clarify among themselves.
The final part is my time to shine. Using PowerPoint, I explained the details and corrected some mistakes they made. I also answered furthermore questions they had. Finally, I ended the discussion with free snacks. I mean, who does not love free food? ;)
