Listen To the Medical Professionals or Get Sick
I get that there will be political disagreements. However, what is happening in America is both stupid and killing people. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my two encounters with polio while at Collins Tract Elementary School in Pennsauken, NJ. In that article, I mentioned how things have changed in my lifetime. I got really sick while in Kindergarten. Back then, when children or adults got sick, people called their doctor. Today, some governors are the go-to persons when it comes to COVID-19.
I recounted how there are two groups of Americans when addressing the coronavirus. The first group relies upon medical professionals from Anthony Fauci to their local doctors.
The other group is told to follow what their governors say. For example, Governor Abbott of Texas will decide what is or isn’t medically prudent for all Texans. Duh. Really?
Interestingly, in that essay, I mentioned that Abbott was jogging one day in 1984, and a tree fell on him. He faced a life-threatening event. Abbott had two potential choices to address his medical conditions. He could listen to medical professionals or what the governor of Texas at that time thought. What would you do if a tree fell on you and severed your spinal cord? Abbott went to medical doctors and followed their instructions. He didn’t listen to what the governor of Texas might have thought.
Abbott isn’t pushing vaccinations nor mask mandates, just the opposite. While he listened to doctors when a tree fell on him, he doesn’t listen to doctors regarding preventing COVID-19 by using masks. I can see that intellectual disconnect, but he can’t.
Abbott tested positive for COVID-19 on August 17th. He obviously caught the coronavirus due to not wearing a mask. Now, he is listening to medical doctors and is even taking Regeneron, an experimental monoclonal antibody treatment for the coronavirus. Essentially, Abbott cherry-picks whether or not to listen to doctors. He will do things prudent medically if it affects him. When it doesn’t, he will diss the medical professionals.
Governor DeSantis of Florida is not following CCD recommendations regarding vaccines and face masks. Recently, he said, “It is very important that we say, unequivocally, no to lockdowns, no to school closures, no to restrictions and no to mandates.”
Under DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has more new cases of COVID-19 than any other state in the entire country based upon hospitalizations per 100,000 people. This chart compares 2020 and 2021 COVID-19 hospitalization in Florida. Johns Hopkin University’s Coronavirus Resouce Center found that Florida has 3.5 times more COVID-19 cases per week than the national average.
DeSantis doesn’t want to push masks or injections. However, he is pushing his idea of rapid response units to administer monoclonal antibody treatments in Florida. You can go to these rapid response places at stadiums, and they will inoculate you, free of charge, with a shot of monoclonal antibodies. That shot helps people with COVID-19. However, this woman had COVID-19 so badly that she fainted while waiting for the monoclonal antibodies treatment.
It seems that DeSantis’ mindset when it comes to COVID-19 is like installing fire extinguishers in a burning building. Why not push masks and shots to avoid having to deal with people suffering from the coronavirus.
Due to the logical disconnects of the governors of Florida and Texas, their states have more confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths than any other state.
There is a message in the mask of medical professionals, or you can listen to Abbott or DeSantis. If you follow those governors, you are dancing with death.
