In this essay, I would like to share my experience on Chiang Mai Day 1.
A couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend invited me to join him on a trip to Chiang Mai. He said it would be a pleasure to have me along, and, of course, I agreed! We booked a plane together and were on our way to the beautiful city of Chiang Mai.
When we landed at Chiang Mai Airport around 9:30 AM, I was surprised at how small yet bustling it was, filled with foreigners, taxi drivers, locals, and street sellers. After grabbing a taxi, we headed to our hotel, which felt more like a cozy little condo than a traditional hotel. It had a fully equipped kitchen with everything you could imagine—electric kettles, coffee makers, toasters, you name it. The room had one double bed and an extra window-side bed big enough for two people, plus it was packed with stuffed toys, Blu-ray CDs, PS3 games, and even children's books. It was surprisingly homey, and we loved it!
But the real gem? The Burmese restaurant right next to our place! The food tasted so much like home that Aung and I ended up eating there seven times during our four-day stay. Can you believe it? We couldn't get enough!
In the afternoon, we headed to Mon Chan, a mountain that was in full bloom. The views reminded me so much of Taunggyi, where I grew up in Myanmar. Aung, on the other hand, was mesmerized, as he's used to life by the sea. The mountain views really took his breath away.
Unfortunately, it was a little too sunny to spend much time in the garden, so we quickly ducked into a nearby café, which also had a spectacular view of the mountainside.
Afterwards, we visited another park that is on our way. It’s called Angle’s Waterfall. It was a long drive to the next destination so dropping off at that park for a walk and doing some stretch definitely felt great. Angles’s Fall was man-made, and it was beautiful, but the particular thing about it is they have a goat farm. My boyfriend and I end up spending our time with the goats instead of the waterfall.
We tried to visit Jasmine Pagoda later in the day, but sadly, it was closed by the time we arrived. Apparently, they closed early that day. So, we called it a day and headed back to our condo, and yes, dinner was at the Burmese restaurant again!
I'll share more about our second day soon. In the meantime, these are several teaser photos of our adventure—hope you enjoy them!
Love,
Ti Ti
