Comparing Two Presidents
Trump and Marshall

Before I begin this article, I want to restate an important aspect of my mindset. I have written about this before. I don’t buy into the philosophical or theological notion that what we do or think in life is predestined by some force or deity. Life isn’t merely following some chart with all the aspects of our journey down our yellow brick roads of life. We all tend to accept ideas about our cultures and often do not question them in life. Nonetheless, life is not merely journeying down a prescriptive. We have the choice: follow what someone has said or write our owner’s manual.

Okay. Recently, I wrote about a commercial that was run during the last Supper Bowl. I was captivated by Harrison Ford’s chat regarding his Jeep Rubicon. I mentioned in that essay that I didn’t watch the game since the Steelers weren’t playing. However, I watched all the commercials that were collected into one presentation. Ford was able to connect with me.

Interestingly, Ford’s ad connected with Jim Caldwell, a classmate at Mt. Lebanon High School and a roommate at Muskingum College. Jim wanted to respond to someone in his 20s who drives around Missoula as if he were Trump. This guy’s Rubicon has MAGA bumper stickers. He wants to emulate Trump.

The other day, I made lunch for myself and Ginger, my Irish Setter. I turned on the TV and watched Air Force One. I have seen that movie when it was released three decades ago and a handful of times since. I knew all the scenes with the hijackers taking over President Marshall, played by Ford.

The hijackers wanted one of their terrorists released from a Russian prison, and they would release Ford, who was onboard Air Force One.

However, the hijackers had to find where Ford was on the plane. The terrorists rounded up all the Americans, but Ford was elusive.

Finally, the terrorists find Ford. Nonetheless, Ford was able to subdue the hijackers.

Ford flies the crimpled Air Force One until the Air Force begins the transfer of Americans still on board a few moments before it crashes into the sea.

Now, compare Ford and Trump. Who is the better president? Would Trump tell anyone, including his own family, to go before he left the crippled plane that was about to crash into the ocean? Trump is so self-centered that he would want to be first in line to leave the doomed Air Force One. Regardless of your political background, no one believes that Trump would choose to go to the back of the line.

Who is a better president, Trump or Marshall? Choose wisely.
