Charles Fort
And His Meme

This essay is another of what’s it all about Alfie articles.

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie
Then I guess it is wise to be cruel
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie
I know there's something much more,
Something even non-believers can believe in
I believe in love, Alfie
Without true love we just exist, Alfie
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Alfie
Alfie

It took Alfie a couple of attempts to come to terms with reality. Others weren’t as fortunate. For example, Charles Fort was born in 1874. Tragically, his mother died when he was 4. In the absence of his mother, his father raised him and physically and emotionally abused him. Ford was able, as best he could, to deal with no mother and an abusive father by responding to his dictatorial father by writing. His writing was a release from authority figures. He dissed everything he saw, telling him what to believe about religions and science.

Charles Hoy Fort

Fort’s early career was in journalism. He traveled for a while when he got an inheritance but had to return to NYC due to an illness. He married an old childhood friend, Annie. She cared for him during his convenience. However, things were tight financially between the newlyweds. Fort fancied himself as a bohemian, but Annie was into just the opposite. She liked the creature comforts.

Fort wrote The Genius in 1915, dealing with his marital problems and his dislike of the wealthy class. The Book of the Damned followed in 1919. It wasn’t about his marriage but was about strange things that were happening. He was now into writing about UFOs, things that fall from the sky, and strange creatures lurking around the world. In 1931, Fort published Lo. Read Lo if you are looking for a litany of strange phenomena. It is his literary attack against astronomers. Fort believed in what we call the deep state. His term a century ago was some sort of an entity that he called the cosmic joker. Do you see any parallels with anyone in the present day?

Fort’s Lo

Fort’s Lo

Fort wrote his quest to discover the answer to what’s it all about. After discovering what some people wanted him to believe, he provided a better explanation. Another New Yorker has followed Fort by providing America with a better explanation. I’m not sure Trump ever read Fort’s The Book of the Damned. Nevertheless, here is a trilogy of Trump’s mimicking Fort’s mindset.

Trump is dealing with immigration in America and what happens to communities throughout America while those looking for asylum in towns and cities. Following in Fort’s footsteps, Trump spoke about asylum seekers.

Trump is dissing science like Fort did. Trump isn’t into UFOs but rather climate change.

Trump also is sure that he is a very stable genius like Fort.

Fort and his meme should have seen the movie Alfie or at least listened to the music. I suggest that my readers watch the link to the song Alfie again. It is a Kierkegaardian either/or message. Either be like Fort and Trump or reach out and help others. Choose wisely.

This is a long video of our very stable genius.
